MoSPI celebrated the 75th anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS), launching nationwide initiatives to highlight its role in data-driven governance and evidence-based policymaking.
About National Sample Survey Office
- Established: NSSO was established in 1950.
- Role: NSSO is responsible for conducting large-scale sample surveys across the country.
- Focus Areas: It collected vital data on employment, education, health, agriculture, consumer expenditure, and industrial performance.
- Headquarters and Structure
- The headquarters of NSSO is located in New Delhi.
- Some of its divisional offices operated from Kolkata and Faridabad.
- Merger with Central Statistics Office (CSO): In May 2019, the Government of India combined the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) with the Central Statistics Office (CSO) to create a unified body called the National Statistical Office (NSO).
