Why in News? 

India and Nepal have inaugurated the commencement of electromechanical works at the Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project to ensure its timely completion.  

About Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project 

• Location: The project is situated on the Arun River, a tributary of the Kosi River, in the Sankhuwasabha District of Eastern Nepal. 
• Project Features: The project has a capacity of 900 MW and follows a Run-of-River scheme for power generation. 
• Operational Details 
  • The project is being developed by SJVN Arun-III Power Development Company (SAPDC). 
  • SAPDC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), India.
