Why in News?  

The Battery Aadhaar Initiative was recently launched by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) during the Battery Summit 2025.  

Key Highlights: Tata Elxsi showcased the technology using its MOBIUS+ platform, which acts as a Digital Product Passport, enabling real-time tracking of battery attributes.  

Aim: It aims to assign a unique digital identity to each battery pack, just like Aadhaar for individuals.  

Benefits for Consumers and Environment  

• Tracking: Helps track manufacturing origin, battery type, safety certification, and performance throughout its life cycle.  
• Monitoring: Observes key factors like charge-discharge cycles to ensure better maintenance and recycling.  
• Regulatory Tool: Prevents use of fake/counterfeit batteries, improves consumer trust, and promotes eco-friendly circular economy practices.
