Union Minister C.R. Patil inaugurated C-FLOOD, the country’s first integrated platform for flood forecasting.
About C-FLOOD
C-FLOOD is a web-based flood forecasting platform developed by C-DAC, CWC, and NRSC. It offers two-day advance inundation forecasts at the village level, enhancing disaster preparedness and aiding timely evacuations in flood-prone areas.
Features of C-FLOOD
- Provides two-day advance flood forecasts down to the village level.
- Shares information through flood maps and water level predictions.
- Acts as a centralized platform, combining data from national and regional agencies.
- Supports disaster management authorities in making informed decisions.
- Uses 2-D hydrodynamic modelling to simulate flood situations.
- Mahanadi basin simulations run on High Performance Computing (HPC) at C-DAC Pune.
- Developed under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Present Coverage
- Currently includes the Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi river basins.
- More river systems will be added in upcoming phases.
