Why in News?
CCI’s new 2025 regulations on production cost aim to curb predatory pricing and deep discounting in quick commerce and e-commerce.
About CCI
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is the principal competition regulator formed under the Competition Act, 2002.
- Established in 2003 and operational since 2009, it works under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, New Delhi.
- The Commission consists of one Chairperson and six Members who shall be appointed by the Central Government.
- Created post-1991 economic liberalization to enforce competition laws and prevent anti-competitive practices.
- The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act, 1969 (MRTP Act) was repealed and replaced by the Competition Act, 2002, on the recommendations of the Raghavan committee.
- Objectives: Prevent anti-competitive agreements, curb dominance abuse, promote competition, protect consumers, and Ensure trade freedom.
