Shreya Ghodawat named as Ambassador for India
- Campaign She Changes the Climate: Environment business visionary Shreya Ghodawat has been named as India's envoy for She Changes Environment a worldwide mission driving familiarity with the pivotal job of ladies in speeding up environment activity.
- The global non-profit organization "She Changes Climate" launched a new campaign titled "Embrace Equity" on International Women's Day with the intention of raising women's voices regarding the effects of climate change.
Earthquake of magnitude 7.1 strikes
- According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands region of New Zealand.
Suryodaya Small Finance Bank launched Blossom Women’s Savings Account
- The "Blossom Women's Savings Account" was launched by Suryoday Small Finance Bank with a 7% annual interest rate and a monthly interest credit.
- According to Suryodaya Small Finance Bank, the account will also include a RuPay Platinum Debit Card with a discount on both in-store and online purchases.
Honeywell appoints veteran Vimal Kapur as CEO
- With effect from June 1, Honeywell International HON announced that Vimal Kapur, the company's current president and chief operating officer, will take over as CEO.
- As of March 13, he has also been appointed to HON's board of directors. He has worked for Honeywell for 34 years in a variety of business models, industries, locations, and economic cycles.
- Kapur's primary focus as CEO will be "the adoption of Accelerator and standardization of global business models to enable maximum performance in each business segment."

Uttarakhand govt approves 10 % horizontal reservation
- A 10% horizontal reservation for statehood campaigners in state government positions has been approved by the Uttarakhand government. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting in Bhararisain under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Multi-lateral ASW Exercise Sea Dragon 23 commences
- On March 14, 2023, a P8I aircraft belonging to the Indian Navy was flown to Guam, USA, to take part in the third iteration of "Exercise Sea Dragon 23," which was a coordinated multilateral Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercise for Long Range MR ASW aircraft led by the US Navy.
- Advanced ASW drills will be part of the exercise, which will run from March 15 to March 30, 2023, and it will focus on coordinated ASW tactics among the participating nations.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino re-elected for another term
- After highlighting his strong financial performance as a reason for keeping a CEO in their position for life, Gianni Infantino was re-elected as FIFA president until 2027 by acclamation.
- The 211 member federations of FIFA made the decision. Since Infantino's first victory in 2016, FIFA has increased their annual funding from $250,000 to $2 million.
- FIFA anticipates a record revenue of at least $11 billion from the 2026 men's World Cup, which will be held in North America. FIFA now has $4 billion in reserves following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Eric Garcetti appointed as US Ambassador to India
- Eric Garcetti has been named the new US Ambassador to India by the US Senate Committee. Garcetti's appointment had been pending up until this point even though he was nominated by President Joe Biden almost two years ago.
- Eric Garcetti is known to be a close friend of President Biden and served as the president of the City Council of Los Angeles for four consecutive terms. Additionally, he has emerged as a Democratic Party leader.
- However, Garcetti's nine-year term as mayor of Los Angeles was not without controversy. A contentious incident occurred during his tenure in office in 2020.
First abort mission of Gaganyaan in May
- The objective of the Gaganyaan program is to demonstrate India's capability to safely transport humans into Low Earth Orbit using an Indian launch vehicle. The first of four abort missions is scheduled for May 2023 in the program.
RCB ropes in Equitas Small Finance Bank
- The IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has partnered with Equitas Small Finance Bank as their banking partner for the 2023 season, according to the news.
- As a result of this partnership, Equitas Small Finance Bank will offer RCB a variety of banking services, such as forex, salary accounts, and other related financial services.

Bhutan’s graduation from the UN list of Least Developed Countries
- The landlocked Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan will no longer be on the list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and will become only the seventh country to be removed from the list at the United Nations Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Summit, which came to an end on March 9 in Doha, Qatar.
CRISIL forecasts India’s GDP growth
- The National Statistics Office (NSO) predicted GDP growth of 7% in fiscal 2023, while CRISIL anticipates GDP growth of 6% in fiscal 2024.
Shaktikanta Das Named ‘Governor of the Year
- The international economic research journal Central Banking has named Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, "Governor of the Year" for 2023.
- The publication praised Das for his steady leadership during difficult times, such as the collapse of a significant non-banking company, the COVID-19 pandemic's first and second waves, and inflationary pressures brought on by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
IDFC FIRST Bank Partners with Mumbai
- The Mumbai Indians, a franchise cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have made IDFC FIRST Bank, a private sector bank in India, their official banking partner.
- IDFC FIRST Bank will offer a variety of financial products and services to Mumbai Indians and its players as the official banking partner, including digital banking services, credit cards, and banking solutions.
Another government survey debunks Swachh Bharat’s 100% ODF claim
- The assertion that all Indian villages are open-defecation-free (ODF) has been contested by four government surveys released between 2018 and 2021, revealing poor sanitation levels in many areas.
- According to the Swachh Bharat Mission, Gramin (SBMG) portal, for instance, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu villages were 100% ODF by October 2018, but a National Statistical Office (NSO) survey conducted in the same month revealed that only 71% and 62.8% of rural households in those states had access to some kind of toilet.
- In a similar vein, the National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) conducted six months later revealed that fewer than 90% of rural households in the same regions did not have access to their toilets, whereas the SBMG data stated that more than 99% of rural households in 24 states and union territories had individual household toilets as of March 2019.
