Goa Liberation Day 2023

  • Goa Liberation Day is celebrated on 19th December every year.
  • It is celebrated to mark the state's liberation from Portuguese colonial rule.
  • In 1961, on December 19, the Indian Army successfully captured Goa, marking the end of centuries of Portuguese colonial rule.
  • In 2023 this day signifies the 62nd anniversary of the event.

Parliament passes Bill to Replace Indian Post Office Act

  • Parliament approved a Bill granting post office employees the authority to inspect or detain any item during transmission in the interest of national security or public safety.
  • The legislation also outlines immunity for post office employees in providing services with certain conditions.
  • It aims to revoke the Indian Post Office Act, 1898. and comprehensively revise and amend the laws concerning the Post Office in India.

  • Bangladesh cricket team lift the Under 19 Asia Cup after crushing UAE by 195 runs.

  • The first ever Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) concluded in New Delhi.
  • Haryana emerged as the champions by securing 105 medals, comprising 40 gold, 39 silver, and 26 bronze.
  • Uttar Pradesh claimed the second position with a total of 62 medals, including 25 gold, 23 silver, and 14 bronze.
  • Tamil Nadu secured the third spot with 20 gold, eight silver, and 14 bronze medals. Athletes from 32 states and Union Territories actively took part in the Games.
