Purple Day of Epilepsy - March 26th, 2023
- Purple Day of Epilepsy is an international awareness day dedicated to increasing understanding and lowering social stigma surrounding epilepsy, a neurological condition.
- It is celebrated annually on March 26 with the goal of educating people about epilepsy, recognising the signs of a seizure, and offering support to those who are impacted by it.
- The primary goal of Purple Day is to raise awareness and empathy for epilepsy and those who live with it, with the goal of creating a more inclusive society.
First Citizens Bank Acquires Silicon Valley Bank
- The Raleigh-based First-Citizens Bank and Trust Company has entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to acquire all loans and deposits of the recently failed Silicon Valley Bridge Bank in the United States.
- After the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation closed Silicon Valley Bank, the FDIC established Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, National Association.
M T Vasudevan Nair awarded Kerala’s highest civilian honour
- M T Vasudevan Nair received the highest civilian honour in Kerala, the "Kerala Jyothi." Actor Mammootty, former civil service officer T Madhava Menon, and writer Omchery NN Pillai shared the second-highest award, "Kerala Prabha."
- The Governor of Kerala, Arif Muhammad Khan, presented the inaugural edition of the "Kerala Puraskarngal" awards, which recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to various aspects of social life.
- There were three award categories: "Kerala Jyothi," "Kerala Prabha," and "Kerala Shri."
Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Autobiography ‘Azaad’ will be released soon
- Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Minister, has written an honest and forthright autobiography, which will be launched in New Delhi on April 5.
- Titled ‘Azaad’, the book chronicles Azad’s political journey and provides insights into the significant political changes that India has undergone over the past five decades.
- Published by Rupa Publications India, ‘Azaad’ is a candid account of Azad’s life and career, including his interactions with influential leaders in India and around the world.
EC chooses transgender folk artiste Manjamma Jogati as poll icon for the community
- Manjamma Jogati, a transgender folk dancer, has been chosen as a poll icon by the Election Commission (EC) in the Indian state of Karnataka to encourage more members of the transgender community to register and vote.
- Along with Jogati, several other people have been chosen as poll ambassadors, including cricketer Rahul Dravid and Jnanapeeth awardee Chandrashekar Kambar.
YES Bank issues first electronic bank guarantee with NeSL
- YES Bank has issued its first electronic Bank Guarantee in collaboration with National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) (e-BG).
- The incorporation of their digital document execution (DDE) platform enabled them to completely digitise the previous paper-based process of issuing and maintaining Bank Guarantees.
- This includes the digital stamping and signing, which has significantly reduced the time it takes to issue Bank Guarantees.
Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff named new President of BRICS New Development Bank
- The New Development Bank (NDB), which is also known as the BRICS bank and is a multilateral financial institution created by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has announced that former Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff has been elected as its new President.
- She replaces Marcus Troyjo in the position. Dilma Rousseff is an economist who served as the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil for two consecutive terms, from January 2011 to August 2016.
PM Modi inaugurated Whitefield (Kadugodi) for Krishnarajapura Metro Line
- The Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed his happiness in a tweet.
- He mentioned that this new metro line will enhance the ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Bengaluru, by improving transportation and connectivity in the region.
Amit Shah unveils the statues of Lord Basaveshwara and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda in Bengaluru
- At the State Assembly in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Shri Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, unveiled the statues of Lord Basaveshwara ji and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda ji.
- Ruler Basaveshwara and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda are two unmistakable verifiable figures from Karnataka, a state in southern India.
- Those who are elected to the assembly will continue to receive the message of social justice, democracy, good governance, and development from these statues.
Cheetah Sasha dies due to kidney ailment in MP’s Kuno National Park
- A Namibian Cheetah died at Kuno Public Park in MP, India. When the cheetah, named Sasha, was moved to India on September 17, 2022, it was said to be in good health.
- However, it was found to have a kidney infection. The project to repopulate the country's cheetah population was hampered by this occurrence.
Humza Yousaf elected leader of Scottish National party
- Pakistani-born politician Humza Yousaf is set to succeed Nicola Sturgeon as Scotland's First Minister. He won the leadership contest for the Scottish National Party (SNP). Yousaf, the son of Asian immigrants, is on track to become Scotland's first African American first minister.
- He defeated Ash Regan, who resigned from the government in opposition to proposed changes to gender recognition, and the country's finance minister, Kate Forbes. With 52% of the final votes, Humza Yousaf won the Scottish National Party leadership race.
- His campaign focused on achieving Scottish independence and addressing the cost-of-living crisis. This comes in the wake of Rishi Sunak's recent appointment as the first Indian-born British Prime Minister. Yousaf will now succeed Nicola Sturgeon as leader of the SNP. Sturgeon resigned last month after eight years as party leader.
IDFC First Bank partners Crunchfish to demonstrate offline retail payments
- IDFC First Bank has announced that it will launch a pilot project with Swedish company Crunchfish to demonstrate offline retail payments.
- The bank will take part in a pilot project that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is running to make it possible to pay offline.
- The venture plans to give advanced installment administrations to clients and dealers even in regions without network availability.
- The Indian payment ecosystem will benefit from this project's support for offline retail payments made through a Digital Cash platform. One of the first banks to participate in HDFC Bank's pilot project is IDFC FIRST Bank.
