Akhaura-Agartala Rail Link to be Inaugurated
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are set to collaborate in the inauguration of the Agartala-Akhaura cross-border rail link project.
- This railway connection is expected to enhance cross-border trade and lessen the travel duration between Agartala and Kolkata via Dhaka.
NMC to Launch ‘One Nation, One Registration Platform’ for Doctors
- The National Medical Commission (NMC), the regulatory body for medical education and medical professionals, is all set to launch its “one nation, one registration platform” for doctors across the country.
- It is to eliminate duplication, red tape and allow the public to access information on any physician working in India.
Shriyanka Wins Olympics Quota in Rifle 3 Position
- Shriyanka Sadangi secured India's 13th spot at the Paris Olympics in shooting, as she claimed fourth place in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event during the current Asian Shooting Championship in Changwon, Korea.
- With a score of 440.5, Shriyanka exited the competition after the 43rd shot of the 45-shot final, evenly divided between the kneeling, prone, and standing positions.
IAF Phases Out Mig-21 Fighter Squadron
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) decommissioned another Mig-21 fighter squadron, specifically the No. 4 Mig-21 squadron stationed at Uttarlai.
- This squadron will now be equipped with SU-30MKIs, leaving two squadrons of the older jets still in operation.
- The complete phase-out of the Mig-21s is expected to occur by 2025, with plans to substitute them with the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-MK1A, scheduled for delivery to the IAF beginning in February 2024.
Army’s Light Combat Helicopter Prachand Successfully Carries Out Inaugural Firing
- The inaugural firing of 70 mm rockets and 20 mm turret guns by the Army's Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand was accomplished with success during both daylight and nighttime operations.
- Both the Army and the Air Force have introduced the indigenous LCH in limited quantities, while a larger contract for 156 LCH units is currently pending government approval.
