World Wildlife Day 2023 celebrated on 3rd March

  • The United Nations observes World Wildlife Day on March 3 each year to commemorate wildlife.
  • Since CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, was signed in 1973, this date was chosen.
  • This annual global celebration honors and raises awareness of the planet's wild animals and plants.
  • In 2023, "Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation" will be the theme of World Wildlife Day, which will honor those who are making a difference.

SpaceX launches NASA Crew-6 mission

  • A Russian cosmonaut and an astronaut from the United Arab Emirates joined two NASA crew members for the launch of SpaceX's Crew-6 mission to orbit on its way to the International Space Station.
  • At 12:34 a.m. EST (05:34 GMT), the SpaceX launch vehicle, which consists of a Falcon 9 rocket and an autonomous Crew Dragon capsule called Endeavour, launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

  • Rashmi Shukla, a senior member of the Indian Police Service (IPS), has been named Director-General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
  • The SSB is the force protecting the border between Nepal and Bhutan.
  • Rashmi Shukla, a member of the Maharashtra cadre from the 1988 IPS batch, was assigned to the Central Reserve Police (CRPF).

India’s Unemployment rate rose to 7.45% in Feb: CMIE

  • According to data provided by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India's unemployment rate increased to 7.45 percent in February from 7.14 percent the month before.
  • The CMIE All India unemployment rate, which measures unemployment, remained elevated in February 2023, rising to 7.45 percent from 7.14 percent the month before.

Jishnu Barua appoints as new chairperson of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission

  • The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has appointed Jishnu Barua to the position of chair.
  • On February 27, 2023, Barua will take over as chair of the CERC. Assam's chief secretary from October 2020 to August 2022 was Barua.
  • Prior to this, from August 2017 to October 2020, he served as Assam's additional chief secretary, overseeing the state's various departments.

Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurated Global Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine

  • SarbanandaSonowal, Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, opened Guwahati's first B2B Global Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
  • The Union Minister stated that India has utilized Ayurveda and other traditional medical practices to the fullest extent possible in order to achieve its goal of universal health coverage and provide people with healthcare.
  • The World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Center for Traditional Medicine (WHO-GCTM), which is being established in Jamnagar with support from India, will assist member nations in strengthening Traditional Medicine education and practice.
