Union Sports Minister Kicks Off 1st BIMSTEC Aquatics Championships

  • The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, inaugurated the BIMSTEC Aquatics Championships 2024 in New Delhi.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced this initiative during the 4th BIMSTEC Summit in 2018, declaring India's intention to host the BIMSTEC Youth Water Sports competition.
  • Originally planned for 2021, the event was postponed to 2024 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The 1st BIMSTEC Aquatics Championships is taking place at Delhi’s Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex from February 6th to 9th, 2024, featuring competitions for the Under 20 age category in swimming, water polo, and diving events.
