World Health Day 2024

  • World Health Day is observed annually on 7th April 2024.
  • It commemorates the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • This year, in 2024, the theme for World Health Day is "My Health, My Right."
  • It emphasizes the intrinsic human entitlement to high-quality healthcare services, comprehensive education, and accurate health-related information.

2. Anil Chauhan to Chair Maiden ‘Parivartan Chintan’

  • The inaugural Parivartan Chintan Tri-Service Conference, designed to foster innovative ideas, initiatives, and reforms that advance Jointness and Integration endeavours, is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on 8th April 2024.
  • Led by Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, the day-long discussions will focus on propelling the Indian Armed Forces' transformative journey towards readiness for future conflicts.
  • Key initiatives aim to enhance Jointness and Integration, aligning structures for Tri-Service multi-domain operations in anticipation of evolving strategic challenges.

3. International Day of Yoga 2024 organized at Pune, Maharashtra 

  • The 'Yoga Mahotsav' marked the commencement of the 75-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd at the Wadia College Sports Ground in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • The event was jointly organized by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and the National Institute of Naturopathy under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
  • Thousands of participants came together for this grand celebration, actively participating in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP).
  • This enthusiastic turnout reflects the increasing significance of Yoga in promoting individual and societal well-being.

4. INS SHARDA Award

  • Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, awarded the 'On the Spot Unit Citation' upon INS Sharda during his visit to the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
  • This recognition was awarded for the successful execution of anti-piracy operations.
  • INS Sharda played a pivotal role in ensuring the safe release of all 19 crew members (11 Iranian and 08 Pakistani) of the Iranian fishing vessel Omari, which had been held hostage by pirates off the East coast of Somalia.

5. Miraj’s Sitars and Tanpuras Awarded Geographical Indication Tags

  • The town of Miraj, located in Maharashtra's Sangli district, has gained renown for its exceptional craftsmanship in producing musical instruments, notably sitars and tanpuras.
  • Recently, these instruments were granted prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tags, affirming their distinct origin and exceptional quality.
