About GST
- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a comprehensive indirect tax applied to the sale of most goods and services intended for domestic consumption in India.
- Although GST is paid by the final consumer, the responsibility for remitting it to the government lies with the businesses selling the goods or services.
- GST follows the Value Added Tax (VAT) principle and is implemented uniformly across the country, replacing a host of previous central and state-level indirect taxes.
- Its introduction simplified India’s tax structure by merging various levies under one system.
