Why in News? 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has released the Human Development Report 2025, titled ‘A Matter of Choice: People and Possibilities in the Age of AI’.  

Key Findings of the Report 

India’s HDI Rank 

• India moved up 3 spots to rank 130 out of 193 countries in the 2025 Human Development Report. 
• India remains in the medium human development category with an HDI value of 0.685. 

Global Trends in Human Development 

• Slower Progress: Globally, human development progress has slowed to its weakest pace since 1990. 
• Inequality Gap: The inequality between low HDI and very high HDI countries has increased for the fourth consecutive year.
