India-UAE Sign 5 Agreements

Why in the News? 

India and the UAE held bilateral talks to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the official visit of Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to New Delhi. Invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this was the Crown Prince's first visit to India, aiming to deepen ties between the two nations. 

Five Agreements 

  • MoU in the field of Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Operations and maintenance between Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) and Nuclear Power Cooperation of India (NPCIL) 
  • An Agreement for long-term LNG supply between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited  
  • MoU between ADNOC and India Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited (ISPRL) 
  • Production Concession Agreement for Abu Dhabi Onshore Block 1 between Urja Bharat and ADNOC 
  • MoU between Government of Gujarat and Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company PJSC (ADQ) on food parks development in India

United Arab Emirates (UAE) 

  • It is a federation of seven emirates located in the Arabian Peninsula, along the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf. 
  • Borders: Saudi Arabia to the south and west, Oman to the east, and the Persian Gulf to the north. 
  • Seven Emirates: Abu Dhabi (capital), Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain.

  • Government: Federal Absolute Monarchy with a President and Prime Minister.

  • Member: United Nations, Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab League. 
  • Official Language: Arabic 
  • Currency: UAE Dirham 
  • It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, largely due to vast oil and gas reserves.
