Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, recently celebrated the 97th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Auditorium, NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi.
About Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)
- Establishment: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was established on 16 July 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
- Autonomous Status: ICAR functions as an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
- Headquarter: The head office of ICAR is located in New Delhi.
- Role and Function: It serves as the apex body for coordinating, guiding and managing research and education in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences across India.
- Institutional Network: India’s agricultural research system includes 113 ICAR institutes and 74 agricultural universities, making it one of the largest in the world.
