About International Day of Play 

• First Observance: The International Day of Play was first celebrated globally on June 11, 2024. 
• Established By: It was created through the efforts of international organizations, educational institutions and child advocacy groups. 
• Purpose: The day aims to elevate play as a global development priority. 
• UN Recognition: Play was already recognized by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) under Article 31, which ensures every child’s right to rest, leisure, and play. 
• Theme for 2025: Choose Play – Every Day.
