Why in News?
Around 100 teams of senior officials will be sent to inspect Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects across the country. This decision was taken after a review meeting chaired by the Cabinet Secretary.
What is the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)?
About
Launched in 2019, JJM aims to provide 55 litres of water per person per day to every rural household through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) by 2024. It promotes a mass movement (jan andolan) to make water a priority. The mission is run by the Jal Shakti Ministry.
Aims of Jal Jeevan Mission
Features
- Manages water demand and supply locally.
- Builds local infrastructure like rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and wastewater management, aligned with other government schemes.
- Follows a community-based approach with strong awareness campaigns.
Funding: Centre and states share funds in a 90:10 ratio for Himalayan and North-Eastern states, 50:50 for others, and 100% for Union Territories.
