Why in News?

 
President Droupadi Murmu presented the 58th Jnanpith Award for 2023 to the Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya and the poet-lyricist Gulzar in New Delhi. 

About the Award  


The Jnanpith Award, established in 1961, is given annually to outstanding authors for their literary excellence. It includes a cash prize of ₹11 lakh, a bronze Saraswati statue, and a citation. 

Gulzar  

 

  • Age: 90 years 
  • Real name: Sampooran Singh Kalra 
  • He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to Indian literature and Urdu writing. 
  • Awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002, Padma Bhushan honor in 2004 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013. 

 

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya 

 

  • Age: 75 
  • Founder: Tulsi Peeth located in Chitrakoot. 
  • He is a distinguished Hindu spiritual leader, educator, and author. 
  • His achievements include writing over 240 books and composing four epics, among many other literary contributions. 
  • He was awarded the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
