Why in News?

President Droupadi Murmu presented the 58th Jnanpith Award for 2023 to the Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya and the poet-lyricist Gulzar in New Delhi.

About the Award

The Jnanpith Award, established in 1961, is given annually to outstanding authors for their literary excellence. It includes a cash prize of ₹11 lakh, a bronze Saraswati statue, and a citation.

Age: 90 years
Real name: Sampooran Singh Kalra
He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to Indian literature and Urdu writing.
Awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002, Padma Bhushan honor in 2004 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013.

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya

Age: 75
Founder: Tulsi Peeth located in Chitrakoot.
He is a distinguished Hindu spiritual leader, educator, and author.
His achievements include writing over 240 books and composing four epics, among many other literary contributions.
He was awarded the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
