Why in News?
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is set to merge Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) with the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) to enhance climate action by promoting sustainable lifestyles and encouraging individual environmental responsibility.
About Mission LiFE
- Mission LiFE, launched by India at COP26 (2021), aims to shift from a "use-and-dispose" model to a circular economy through individual and community action.
- It is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
- Promotes a Jan Andolan (people’s movement) for adopting sustainable lifestyle habits in daily life.
- Emphasizes global collaboration and integration of traditional climate-friendly practices.
About NAPCC
- NAPCC was launched in 2008 as India’s comprehensive strategy for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- It includes 8 core missions addressing various environmental challenges.
- Key missions cover areas like solar energy, energy efficiency, water, agriculture, green cover, and urban sustainability.
- Also focuses on protecting the Himalayan ecosystem and promoting climate knowledge and research.
