Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy

• Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, born in 1882 in Patna (Bengal Presidency, British India), was a distinguished physician, freedom fighter, educationist, and politician, and followed the Brahmo Samaj.
  
• He played a key role in the Civil Disobedience Movement in Bengal and served as Mahatma Gandhi’s personal physician. He later became the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
  
• He was instrumental in founding five major cities in West Bengal: Durgapur, Kalyani, Bidhannagar, Ashokenagar and Habra.
  
• The British Medical Journal praised him as the first medical consultant in the Indian subcontinent who excelled in multiple fields.
  
• Honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1961, his legacy continues through the B.C. Roy National Award, established in 1976, for excellence in medicine, politics, science, philosophy, literature and arts.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) 

• Role and Representation: IMA is the only national voluntary organization representing doctors of the Modern Scientific System of Medicine, dedicated to the welfare of doctors and public health. 
• Foundation: It was established in 1928 during the 5th All India Medical Conference in Calcutta, driven by the vision of leaders who felt the need for a national body for the medical profession. 
• Global Recognition and Contribution: In 1946, IMA helped establish the World Medical Association (WMA) and became one of its founding members. 
• Headquarters: The head office of IMA is located in Delhi.
