Suo moto cognizance

"Suo moto cognizance" is a Latin phrase meaning "on its own motion," used in legal contexts to describe when a court or authority takes action on its own initiative, without a formal request or complaint. In essence, it means taking up a case or addressing an issue without being prompted by an outside party.
