Why in News? 

The Union Cabinet has approved the National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025, replacing the old 2001 policy. Its goal is to make India a global sports powerhouse, with special focus on preparing for the 2036 Olympics. 

• Sports for Economic Development 
  • Promote sports tourism and host international events. 
  • Support sports startups and manufacturing. 
  • Encourage private investment through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and funding models. 
• Sports for Social Development 
  • Ensure sports participation from women, tribals, weaker sections, and PwDs. 
  • Revive and promote traditional Indian games. 
  • Make sports a career option through education and volunteering. 
  • Involve the Indian diaspora in promoting sports 
• Sports as a People’s Movement 
  • Promote mass participation and fitness through campaigns. 
  • Introduce fitness scores for schools and colleges. 
  • Improve access to sports facilities for everyone. 
• Integration with Education (NEP 2020) 
  • Make sports a part of the school curriculum. 
  • Train teachers to promote sports awareness and education from an early age. 

Strategic Framework of NSP 2025 

• Governance: Create a strong legal system to ensure transparency and accountability in sports. 
• Private Sector Funding & Support: Promote private investment through PPP and CSR, with new funding ideas. 
• Technology & Innovation: Use AI, data analytics, and tech tools for better training and program planning. 
• National Monitoring Framework: Set clear goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track progress with fixed deadlines. 
• Model Policy for States: Guide States/UTs to create or update their sports policies as per national goals. 
• Whole-of-Government Approach: Involve all ministries and departments to promote sports in a united way.
