On July 9, 2025, PM Narendra Modi was awarded Namibia’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis’, during his first visit, marking a boost in India–Namibia bilateral ties.

About the Award
- Established: 17 March 1995.
- Country: Republic of Namibia.
- Named after: Welwitschia Mirabilis, a rare plant endemic to the Namib Desert.
- Purpose: Awarded to foreign heads of state for strengthening diplomatic ties; can be awarded posthumously.
- Grand Master: The President of Namibia holds this position.
