Why in News? 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Ghana’s highest civilian honour, The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana. 

About the Order of the Star of Ghana 

• This is the second-highest national award of Ghana, given to individuals for outstanding service to the country. 
• Earlier, it was Ghana’s highest civilian honour until 23 June 2008, when it was overtaken by the Grand Order of the Star and Eagles of Ghana. 
• The award is presented at formal state functions led by the President of Ghana. 
• PM Modi was honoured in the Officer grade (civil division) for his role in strengthening India-Ghana relations. 
• PM Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ghana in over 30 years. 
• The award from Ghana marks PM Modi’s 24th international recognition.
