Why in News?
Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, chaired the 47th Empowered Committee Meeting on 23rd June 2025 to review Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakaram (PMJVK), proposals from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
About Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakaram (PMJVK)
- Designed to address development deficits in identified Minority Concentration Areas (MCAs).
- It is a Central Sector Scheme.
- Background: PMJVK is the successor scheme to the Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) previously implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

- Minority population
- Socio-economic indicators
- Basic amenities data from Census 2011
- Aim of the Scheme
- Improve quality of life in MCAs.
- Reduce regional imbalances and bring them at par with other areas of the country.
- Implementing Agencies: Project proposals can be submitted by,
- State/UT governments
- Central Government Departments/Organizations
- Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs)
- Central/State Universities
- Armed Police Forces
- Resource Allocation
- 80% of resources allocated to education, health and skill development projects.
- Of this, 33–40% is earmarked for facilities for women and girls.
