Why in News?
The Pulitzer Prizes 2025, honouring outstanding contributions to journalism and arts, were announced by the Pulitzer Prize Board.
About the Pulitzer Prize
- The Pulitzer Prize is regarded as the most prestigious honour in American journalism.
- Established in 1917, it is administered by Columbia University and the Pulitzer Prize Board, which consists of judges appointed by the university.
- The award is named in honour of Joseph Pulitzer, a renowned newspaper publisher who allocated funds in his will to create the School of Journalism at Columbia University and to establish the Pulitzer Prize.
- Each winner receives a certificate and a cash prize of USD 15,000. The recipient in the 'Public Service' category is also awarded a gold medal.
