Russia and China Naval Exercise ‘Beibu’ Started in Sea of Japan

Why in the News?
Russia and China launched a series of naval exercises in the Sea of Japan known as "Beibu/Interaction - 2024." The drills aim to enhance military capabilities in anti-aircraft and anti-submarine warfare, improving interoperability and regional defense mechanisms.

About Sea of Japan/ East Sea
- Borders: Russia and Sakhalin Island to the north, North Korea to the west, South Korea to the southwest and the Japanese archipelago (Hokkaidō, Honshū, and Kyūshū) to the east and south.
- Dohoku Seamount, an underwater volcano is the deepest point of the sea.
- he Tumen (or Dooman) River is the largest river flowing into the Sea of Japan, serving as a border between North Korea, Russia and China.
