Key Contributions 

  • Core Belief: He rejected traditional practices, caste distinctions, and idol worship, promoting the belief in one God (Nirguna Bhakti). 
  • The verses associated with Kabir have been compiled into three distinct but interconnected traditions 
    • Kabir Bijak: Preserved by the Kabirpanth (the sect or following of Kabir) in Varanasi and surrounding regions. 
    • Kabir Granthavali: Linked with the Dadupanth sect in Rajasthan. 
    • Many of Kabir’s compositions are included in the Adi Granth Sahib, a compilation by Guru Arjan Dev. 
  • Kabir’s poetry has been passed down through several languages and dialects 
    • Some of his works are composed in the unique language of Nirguna poets, known as Sant Bhasha. 
    • Other poems, called ulatanvasi (literally "upside-down sayings"), are written in a way that turns everyday meanings on their head.
