Why in News? 

Union Minister for Ministry Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, recently launched the UMEED Portal, a digital platform designed to enhance the management and monitoring of Waqf properties nationwide.

About UMEED Portal: The UMEED Portal (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development) is a centralized digital platform developed by the Ministry of Minority Affairs to streamline the management and monitoring of Waqf properties, which are lands or buildings donated for religious or charitable purposes. 

Purpose of the Portal: 

• Transparency: Ensures clear usage of Waqf properties. 
• Accountability: Ensures proper management of properties. 
• Public Participation: Involves the public in safeguarding Waqf assets. 
• Protection of Rights: Protects the rights of minority communities, especially poor Muslims, women, and children.
