Why in the News?
Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the first Foundation Day of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, launched key initiatives for cybercrime prevention. He inaugurated the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC), the Samanvay platform for joint cybercrime investigations, the 'Cyber Commandos' program, and the Suspect Registry. Shah also unveiled I4C's new logo, vision, and mission during the event.
Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C)
- Established: 2018
- It is an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs under Central Sector Scheme.
- Mission: To create an effective framework and ecosystem for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of Cybercrime.
- Four New Platforms
- Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC): Dedicated to mitigating and addressing cyber fraud through advanced techniques and coordination with financial institutions and other stakeholders.
- Cyber Commando: A training and development program aimed at equipping law enforcement personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to handle cybercrime effectively. Around 5000 of these will be prepared in next 5 years.
- Samanvay Platform: A joint cybercrime investigation facility system designed to facilitate collaboration and information sharing among various law enforcement agencies.
- Cyber Suspect Registry: A database for maintaining information about individuals suspected of being involved in cybercrimes.
- It has also launched an effective awareness campaign on various social media handles under Cyber Dost.
