  • Republic of Korea is the global host for this year’s celebration. 
  • The theme for 2025 is “Beat Plastic Pollution”, focusing on reducing plastic waste.

  •  The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the global authority on environmental issues and sustainability within the UN system. 
  • It was established in 1972 after the Stockholm Conference to address rising global pollution. 
  • UNEP works to set the environmental agenda and support global and regional policy implementation. 
  • It is headquartered in Nairobi and led by an Executive Director.
