• This day globally recognises the dedication and impact of sports journalists who connect audiences to events—from local tournaments to global arenas like the Olympics. 
• Theme for 2025: "Championing Fair Play: Reporting with Integrity and Impact" 
• Historical Background 
  • Started in 1994, this day marks the foundation of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) on 2 July 1924 in Paris. 
  • AIPS was created to unite sports journalists globally, protect their rights, and promote ethics and quality in sports journalism. 
  • AIPS headquarters is in Lausanne, Switzerland, and represents journalists from 160+ countries. 
  • In India, sports journalists are represented by the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI), which is a member of AIPS.
