Why in News? 

 Indian Armed Forces contingent, led by a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, will participate in the multilateral joint military exercise ZAPAD 2025 in Nizhniy, Russia (10th-16th Sept). 

• Zapad exercise series, began during the Soviet era, has been conducted by Russia since 2009.
