World Population Day 2023
- Every year on July 11th, World Population Day is observed to increase awareness and educate people about the difficulties and outcomes linked to the worldwide growth of the population.
- It serves as a reminder to consistently strive towards resolving these problems and enhancing the well-being of every individual on Earth.
- The purpose of observing World Population Day is to foster comprehension and inspire joint endeavors in addressing the effects of population growth.
- The theme of World population day 2023 is “Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities”.
WMO Revives Ozone-UV Bulletin
- After a gap of seven years, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has published the Ozone and UV Bulletin.
- It has been possible due to the Montreal Protocol and its amendments that the production and usage of regulated substances responsible for ozone depletion have been reduced by up to 99%.
- As a result, stratospheric ozone is gradually replenishing, and it is projected that a complete recovery will take place in the majority of the atmosphere over the next few decades.
Max Verstappen Wins British Grand Prix 2023
- Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured his sixth consecutive victory at the 2023 British Grand Prix.
- This remarkable achievement marked his first-ever win at Silverstone, while also contributing to Red Bull's 11th consecutive triumph, which equals the record set by McLaren in the sport.
Ministry of Education Releases Report on Performance Grading Index 2.0
- With approximately 14.9 lakh schools, 95 lakh teachers, and nearly 26.5 crore students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, the Indian Education System stands as one of the largest in the world.
- To evaluate the performance of the school education system at the state and union territory (UT) level, the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, introduced the Performance Grading Index (PGI).
- This index enables a comprehensive analysis by assessing various aspects. The PGI - States/UTs was initially introduced for the year 2017-18 and has subsequently been released up to the year 2020-21.
NHB Operationalises Urban Infra Development Fund
- The National Housing Bank (NHB) has declared the commencement of the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF), amounting to ₹10,000 crore, in accordance with this year's Budget.
- This fund is designed to support the development of urban infrastructure in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, complementing the initiatives undertaken by state governments.
K Rajaraman Appointed as New IFSCA Chairman
- The appointment of K Rajaraman, a senior bureaucrat and telecom secretary, as the next Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) has been announced by the government.
- IFSCA was set up in April 2020 under the International Financial Services Centre Authority Act, 2019.
