Santiniketan Makes it to UNESCO World Heritage List

  • During the 45th Session of the World Heritage Committee held in Saudi Arabia, Santiniketan, a town in West Bengal, was granted UNESCO World Heritage status.
  • Santiniketan was founded in 1901 by the renowned poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore.
  • Originally, it served as a residential school and a hub for art rooted in ancient Indian traditions.
  • In 1921, it evolved into a 'world university' known as "Visva Bharati," symbolizing the recognition of humanity's interconnectedness.

Inauguration of ‘YashoBhoomi’ Convention Centre

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), named 'Yashobhoomi.'
  • It has been built at an expenditure of Rs 5,400 crore, is set to revolutionize the global landscape of meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).

India hosted the inaugural UNCITRAL South Asia Conference

  • India hosted the inaugural United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) South Asia conference from 14 to 16 September.
  • This event was jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, UNCITRAL, and the organization’s national coordination committee for India.

‘Sarpanch Samvad’ Mobile App

  • Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, has launched the 'Sarpanch Samvad' mobile application.
  • The objective is to revolutionize the way village leaders, known as Sarpanchs, engage in communication.
  • The development of the 'Sarpanch Samvad' app has been carefully undertaken by the Quality Council of India (QCI).

  • Indian Bank has launched the 'IB SAATHI' (Sustainable Access and Aligning Technology for Holistic Inclusion) program.
  • The program aims to offers an enhanced user experience through the simplified delivery of services, encompassing both basic and value-added offerings to customers.
  • Indian Bank intends to have approximately 5,000 banking correspondents in operation by March 2024 to expand accessibility and coverage.
  • The bank’s Managing Director and CEO S L Jain launched the initiative.
