International Day of Women in Diplomacy 2023 

  • Every year on June 24, the International Day of Women in Diplomacy (IDWID) is celebrated worldwide to pay tribute to and acknowledge the extraordinary achievements of women in the realms of diplomacy and decision-making.  
  • The selected theme for the inaugural forum of this year's International Day of Women in Diplomacy (IDWID), which is arranged by the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT), centers around "Breaking Barriers, Shaping the Future: Women in Diplomacy for Sustainable Development."  
  • This theme underscores the significance of enhancing women's involvement in decision-making processes and diplomatic positions, highlighting their crucial role in fostering sustainable development. 

Medha Rail Coach Factory in Hyderabad  

  • The Medha Rail Coach Factory, the largest privately-owned coach factory in India, situated in Kondakal, Shankarpally mandal of Rangareddy district, was recently inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao of Telangana.  
  • During the inaugural event, CM KCR pledged unwavering support to the Medha Servo Group for its expansion endeavours in Telangana. 

DRDO and L&T Join Hands for AIP System in Indian Navy 

  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have joined forces to establish an Indigenous Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System for submarines within the Indian Navy. T 
  • This partnership focuses on developing two AIP System Modules specifically designed for the Kalvari Class submarines.  
  • The modules employ fuel cell-based Energy Modules (EMs) to generate power and produce hydrogen whenever necessary.  
  • This groundbreaking approach eliminates the need to store hydrogen onboard, effectively resolving safety concerns related to hydrogen transportation on submarines.

NTPC's recognition as the "Most Preferred Workplace of 2023-24"

‘India’s Finance Ministers’ by AK Bhattacharya 

  • Ashok Kumar Bhattacharya (AK Bhattacharya), a seasoned journalist, has recently penned a new book titled "India's Finance Ministers: From Independence to Emergency (1947-1977)."  
  • This book sheds light on the significant contributions and impact of India's finance ministers who played a pivotal role in shaping the country's economy during the initial three decades following Independence.  
  • Published by Penguin Business, an imprint of Penguin Random House, the book offers insights into the economic landscape of India during that period. 

 Day of the Seafarer 2023 

  • The Day of the Seafarer is an exceptional occasion dedicated to individuals who work closely with the sea, encompassing Coast Guards, Navies, fishermen, marine biologists, and cruise ship captains.  
  • It commemorates the historic first recorded sea voyage, sponsored by the Egyptian Pharaoh Snefru, around 3200 BCE, who is renowned for constructing multiple pyramids. 
  • This annual event, observed on June 25th, serves to recognize and appreciate the indispensable role played by seafarers in international trade, the global economy, and society at large. It highlights their significant contributions to preserving the marine environment. 

 Amit Shah Inaugurated the Construction of the 'Balidan Stambh' in Srinagar 

  • On June 24th, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the construction of the 'Balidan Stambh' in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.  
  • The event took place at a park near Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of Srinagar, and was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.  
  • This memorial, which forms part of the Srinagar Smart City project, pays tribute to the courageous martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.
