Luis Caffarelli won the 2023 Abel Prize
- Luis Caffarelli, 74, has won the 2023 Abel Prize “for his seminal contributions to regularity theory for nonlinear partial differential equations including free-boundary problems and the Monge-Ampère equation”.
- A glass plaque created by Norwegian artist Henrik Haugan and a cash prize of 7.5 million kroner (roughly $ 720,000) are included in the award.
- It is granted by The Norwegian Institute of Science and Letters, for the benefit of the Service of Training.
Salima Tete appointed as the AHF Athletes Ambassador
- Public ladies' hockey group midfielder Salima Tete has selected the AHF Competitors Representative from India for a term of two years.
- During the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Congress in Mungyeong, Korea, Tete accepted the position and the certificate.
- Tete, one of four Asian players appointed to the position, led the Indian women's junior hockey team to a fourth-place finish at the 2021 FIH Women's Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Indian Government Launches DigiClaim Platform for Farmer Insurance Claims
- On the national crop insurance portal, a brand-new platform known as "Digi Claim" has been introduced by India's Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar.
- The goal of this platform is to speed up the process of paying out insurance claims to farmers who have used crop insurance.
- The Minister transferred a total insurance claim of Rs. to demonstrate its effectiveness.
- With just one click, 1,260.35 crore was distributed to insured farmers in a number of Indian states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana.
Haldwani to get a sports university: Uttarakhand CM
- Pushkar Singh Dhami, chief minister of Uttarakhand, has announced that the government will establish a sports university in Haldwani, a town in the Kumaun region.
- On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the formation of his government, Dhami made the announcement, stating that several sports associations had long requested such a university.
Cabinet sanctions focused subsidy for beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
- The Bureau Panel on Financial Issues, headed by State leader Narendra Modi, has declared an augmentation of the sponsorship of Rs 200 for every LPG chamber under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for one year.
- The Central government launched the PMUY in May 2016 to make LPG available to rural and impoverished households and to provide adult women from low-income households with deposit-free connections.
- The subsidy is credited directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries by the government.
Urban Climate Film Festival
- As part of the CITIIS program under U20 engagement events, the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) has collaborated with the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, the French Development Agency (AFD), and the European Union to organize the first-ever Urban Climate Film Festival.
- 11 films from nine countries will be shown at the festival to raise awareness of the effects of climate change on urban life and spark discussion about sustainable urban development.
Government Increases Raw Jute MSP by Rs 300 to Rs 5,050 per quintal
- The Indian government has raised the minimum support price (MSP) for raw jute by Rs 300, bringing it up to Rs 5,050 per quintal for the 2023–2024 season.
- The decision was made based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- For the upcoming season, Raw Jute's MSP (TD-3, which is equivalent to the previous TD-5 grade) has been set at Rs 5,050 per quintal.
NGT slaps ₹10 crore penalty on Kerala government for failure to protect Ramsar sites
- The Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a Rs 10 crore fine on the Kerala government for failing to stop the uncontrolled pollution of the designated Ramsar sites.
- The request by NGT was made in lines with an appeal charging disappointment of legal and managerial experts in making a medicinal move for security of the Vembanad and Ashtamudi lakes hit by unlawful waste unloading.
WPL 2023 Final: Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by seven wickets
- The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 final at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai by seven wickets.
- After winning the toss, the Delhi Capitals decided to bat first and set a target of 132 runs.
- The Mumbai Indians responded by scoring 134 runs in 19.3 overs to reach their goal. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the team, contributed 37 runs off 39 balls, while Nat Sciver-Brunt played exceptionally well and remained unbeaten after scoring 60 runs off 55 balls.
- The Harmapreet Kaur-drove side prearranged history by turning into the champs of the 2023 version of the competition.
World Theatre Day 2023 is celebrated on 27th March

ISRO launches LVM3-M3/One web India-2 Mission in Sriharikota
- For the sixth time in a row, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was able to successfully launch its largest rocket, LVM3, from the Sriharikota spaceport. The rocket was able to successfully launch 36 OneWeb group satellites into their intended orbits.
- After a 24.5-hour countdown, the launch took place at 9 a.m. from the second launch pad, which is approximately 135 kilometers from Chennai.
- The SSLV/D2-EOS07 mission in February was ISRO's first 2023 mission, making this the 18th launch for the OneWeb Group.
PM Modi launched ‘Call Before u Dig’ app
- An app called "Call Before You Dig" was recently launched by Prime Minister Modi to prevent uncoordinated digging, which can damage underground utility assets like optical fiber cables.
- The Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics, which is part of the Gujarat government, and the Department of Telecommunications collaborated on the development of the app.
- Protecting the country's underground public infrastructure is its primary objective.
Amit Shah inaugurated Vedic Heritage portal in New Delhi
- In New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Vedic Heritage portal. The portal's primary objective is to make the Vedic teachings more easily understandable to the general public.
- The four Vedas' audio-visual recordings are now available on the Vedic Heritage portal, as stated by Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy.
- Over 18,000 mantras from the four Vedas are included in these recordings, which run for more than 550 hours.
Shri Bhupender Yadav launches Aravalli Green Wall Project
- The Aravalli Green Wall Project, which aims to green the 5 km buffer area around the Aravalli Hill Range in four states, was unveiled by Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav at an event held in Tikli Village, Haryana, to commemorate the International Day of Forests.
- The Aravalli Green Wall Project is a significant undertaking aimed at afforesting the 5 km buffer zone around the Aravalli Hill Range in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi.
- The project is part of the Union Environment Ministry’s efforts to create green corridors throughout the country to combat land degradation and desertification.
New species of Moray eel discovered off Cuddalore coast named after Tamil Nadu
- A group of researchers from the Indian Committee of Rural Exploration (ICAR) has found another types of Moray Eel fish from the Cuddalore coast in Tamil Nadu.
- The new species has been named "Gymnothorax Tamilnaduensis" after Tamil Nadu and has been given the normal name of "Tamil Nadu earthy colored moray eel".
ICICI Lombard becomes first to offer ‘Anywhere Cashless’ feature
- For health insurance policyholders, ICICI Lombard General Insurance has introduced "Anywhere Cashless," a first in the industry feature that enables them to receive cashless facilities at any hospital, regardless of whether or not it is currently a part of ICICI Lombard's hospital network.
- For this feature to work, the hospital must, however, agree to accept the cashless facility.
2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships
- At the 13th IBA Women's World Boxing Championship 2023, held in New Delhi, India emerged as the dominant force.
- Four Indian female boxers won gold medals in a variety of weight classes at the event's conclusion.
- India's historic success in the competition was helped along by Saweety Boora, Nitu Ghanghas, Nikhat Zareen, and Lovlina Borgohain being the best performers in their respective categories. This was India's second such remarkable accomplishment, the first being at the 2006 competition.
- The International Boxing Association (IBA) was in charge of organizing the 13th Women's World Boxing Championship 2023, which took place from March 15 to March 26 of that year.
A Multi-Domain Exercise Vayu Prahar held at LAC
- The Indian Army and Air Force recently conducted a 96-hour joint exercise called "Vayu Prahar" in the eastern region during the ongoing tensions between India and China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
- Plans for using air and land forces together in multi-domain operations were the goal of the exercise.
- It was held in the second week of March, and its primary objective was to improve Army and Air Force coordination for efficient multi-domain battlefield operations.
