Assam Cabinet Establishes 4 New Districts

• The Assam Cabinet has established four new districts—Hojai, Biswanath, Tamulpur, and Bajali—while also introducing the formation of 81 sub-districts.
• The move comes after the Election Commission (EC) issued a final delimitation order under Section 8A of the RP Act, 1950 for the 126 assembly and 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its consent for the merger of Akola Merchant Co-operative Bank with The Jalgaon Peoples Co-operative Bank.
• The RBI has approved this merger by invoking its authority in accordance with Sub-Section (4) of Section 44A along with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
