International Labour Day 2024

  • Every year on 1st May marks International Labour Day, a time for acknowledging the vital contributions of labourers and the working class to the progress of society and the nation.
  • This observance also serves as a reminder for labourers to understand and advocate for their rights.

The Indian Coast Guard Organized a Medical Camp in Lakshadweep

  • The Indian Coast Guard, in collaboration with AIIMS New Delhi and with the support of the Union Territory administration, organized a medical camp on 29th and 30th April, 2024, in the remote islands of Kavaratti and Androth in UT Lakshadweep.
  • The camp served around 1,500 citizens on each island, offering free medicines and expert consultations.
  • Led by Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, the medical team included 15 specialist doctors in fields like Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurology, Dermatology, Orthopedics, and more.
  • The camp aimed to provide super-specialist medical services in these distant islands, benefiting the local population through consultations with expert doctors.
  • The team conducted basic life support (BLS) training sessions for local medical professionals to improve the region's medical infrastructure.

Zonal Review Meeting of EPFO

  • Ms. Sumita Dawra, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, inaugurated the 16th Zonal Review Meeting of EPFO on 30th April 2024.
  • The meeting aimed to review the progress made in the past year, identify areas of success, discuss strategies for improvement, and establish key performance indicators and targets for the fiscal year 2024-25.

Maharashtra Foundation Day 2024

  • Maharashtra Day, also referred to as Maharashtra Divas, is annually observed on 1st May in honour of the state's establishment in 1960.
  • Maharashtra emerged as a distinct entity from the Bombay Presidency, marking a significant milestone on this date.
  • The remaining part of the former Bombay state is now known as present-day Gujarat.
  • This division was a consequence of the States Reorganisation Act of 1956, which sought to restructure states along linguistic lines, prompted by widespread demands for linguistic states.
