World Bicycle Day 2023
- World Bicycle Day is a yearly occasion observed on June 3rd, which was officially designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018.
- This global event aims to acknowledge the bicycle's significance as an accessible, cost-effective, dependable, eco-friendly, and suitable mode of sustainable transportation.
- The choice of this specific date holds significance as it honors the anniversary of Karl von Drais' invention of the bicycle in 1817.
- This year's theme for World Bicycle Day is "Riding Together for a Sustainable Future."
Gender-Inclusive Tourism Policy ‘Aai’ Gets Approval
- In a move to empower women in the tourism industry, the Maharashtra state cabinet has given its approval for the implementation of a gender-inclusive tourism policy called "Aai."
- The policy will be executed through the Directorate of Tourism (DoT) and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
- Approval was also given to start women’s bike-taxi services at some tourist spots in the state.
GOBARdhan Scheme
- The Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the Unified Registration Portal for "GOBARdhan" scheme which serves as a comprehensive platform for evaluating investments and engagement in the biogas/CBG (Compressed Biogas) sector.
- This scheme is designed to transform organic waste, including cattle dung and agricultural residue, into biogas, CBG, and bio-fertilizers, thereby fostering a circular economy and generating wealth from waste.
The First Female NCC Cadet to Complete Mountaineering Course
- Shalini Singh, a 20-year-old NCC cadet from Lucknow, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming India's first female cadet to successfully complete the advanced mountaineering course in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand.
- As part of the course, she conquered a 15,400-foot peak located in the Dring Valley of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand.
Dubai Emerges as India’s Top Choice for FDI
- Dubai has reaffirmed its status as the foremost choice for foreign direct investment (FDI) from India in the year 2022, as stated by the recent FDI Markets Report and the Dubai FDI Monitor.
- The report reveals that India secured a spot among the top five source countries for announced FDI projects and estimated FDI capital in Dubai.
India’s First Deluxe Train Completed 93 Years of Operations
- Deccan Queen, India's first deluxe train, celebrated its 93rd anniversary of service between Pune and Mumbai.
- The train embarked on its inaugural journey on June 1, 1930, marking a significant milestone in the history of the Great Indian Peninsula (GIP) Railway, which later became Central Railways.
- The name of the train was a nod to Pune, which was also known as the Queen of Deccan.
3rd India-Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue
- The 3rd India-Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue took place in New Delhi. Senior officials from both countries, as well as representatives from maritime-related services, participated in the dialogue.
- The discussions focused on strategies to maintain a secure maritime environment that promotes inclusive growth.
- The participants also reviewed ongoing maritime cooperation initiatives and explored opportunities to strengthen international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security.
RBI's '100 Days 100 Pays' Campaign
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the '100 Days 100 Pays' campaign, with the objective of locating and resolving the top 100 unclaimed deposits from each bank in every district within a 100-day timeframe.
- This initiative is part of the RBI's ongoing endeavors to minimize the number of unclaimed deposits in the banking system and ensure their rightful return to their owners or claimants.
- By initiating this campaign, the RBI aims to draw attention to the issue of unclaimed deposits and facilitate their resolution effectively.
