Indian Government Partners with Meta
- The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Ministry of Education, and Meta (formerly known as Facebook) have formed a three-year partnership to strengthen India’s digital capabilities.
- They partnered to launch initiative named "Education to Entrepreneurship: Empowering a Generation of Students, Educators, and Entrepreneurs," seeks to equip both aspiring and established entrepreneurs with essential knowledge in the field of digital marketing.
First-Ever Transgender Cricketer to Play
- Danielle McGahey, aged 29, is ready to be the first transgender woman player to participate in ICC-affiliated competitions.
- Originally from Australia and now residing in Canada since 2020, this right-handed batter has met the eligibility requirements for a male-to-female (MTF) transition set by the ICC.
Rajesh Nambiar Appointed as Nasscom Chairperson
- Nasscom, the Indian IT and tech trade association, has appointed Rajesh Nambiar as its new Chairperson.
- Prior to this he was serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of Cognizant India.
- Nambiar succeeds Anant Maheshwari in this leadership role.
Kathmandu-Kalinga Literature Festival
- The Kathmandu-Kalinga Literary Festival, spanning three days, concluded successfully yesterday in Lalitpur, Nepal.
- The festival was inaugurated by Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs, NP Saud.
- This event effectively served as a platform for fostering cultural exchange within South Asia and promoting literary and cultural endeavors.
- The festival featured prominent literary figures from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, who participated in various activities.
43rd ASEAN Summit
- The 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Jakarta will be held from 5th to 7th September 2023.
- The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in the South China Sea, after China released a new map laying claims over large swathes disputed by some ASEAN members, triggering protests by these states.
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN):
- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a regional organization which was established to promote political and social stability amid rising tensions among the Asia-Pacific’s post-colonial states.
- IN 1967 ASEAN was established with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by its founding fathers.
- Founding Fathers of ASEAN are Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
- The motto of ASEAN is “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.
- 8th August is observed as ASEAN Day.
- ASEAN Secretariat – Indonesia, Jakarta.
- Members: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
Tata Steel Chess India Women’s Rapid Tournament 2023
- Divya Deshmukh, a 17-year-old Chess Woman Grandmaster from Nagpur, Maharashtra, secured the first position in the women's division of the rapid section in the Tata Steel Chess India tournament.
- The event was held at the National Library in Kolkata on September 1, 2023.
- Second and third position is secured by Ju Wenjun of China and Russia’s Polina Shuvalova respectively.
