Why in News?
The Indian Navy has received 'Androth,' the second of eight indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW-SWC).
- It features over 80% indigenous components. It is named after Androth Island in Lakshadweep.
- ASW-SWC: These vessels are designed for anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, low-intensity maritime operations (LIMO), and mine-laying missions.
India’s ASW Capabilities
- Integrated ASW Defence Suites (IADS): Developed with Mahindra Defence, for underwater detection and threat protection.
- Kamorta-class Ships: Stealth warships like INS Kamorta and INS Kadmatt, with low radiated underwater noise.
- Maritime Patrol Aircraft: Boeing P-8I (Poseidon) for anti-submarine reconnaissance.
- SMART System: DRDO-developed missile-based torpedo delivery system.
- ASW Helicopters: MH-60R Seahawk helicopters for anti-submarine warfare.
