History
- Also Known as Madam Cama
- Born: 24th September 1861 to Sorabji Framji Patel and Jaijibai Sorabai Patel.
- She participated actively in the fight for Indian independence.
- She helped the Indian community in England by promoting Swaraj.
- The Indian flag was first flown in Germany in 1907 by Madam Cama.
- She established The Paris Indian Society, after relocating to Paris.
- This society was co-founded by S.R. Rana and Munchershah Burjorji Godrej.
- She organized numerous exhibitions and ran numerous campaigns to empower daughters both domestically and overseas.
- Literary Works: Bande Mataram and Madan’s Talwar.
- Recognition in Independent India
- Numerous Indian cities have streets and locations named in honor of the late freedom fighter.
- The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department released a commemorative stamp in her honor on January 26, 1962, India's 11th Republic Day.
- After her name, the Indian Coast Guard put ICGS Bhikaji Cama, a fast patrol vessel of the Priyadarshini class, into service in 1997.
