Neeraj Chopra won the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a World Athletics Gold-level event, held at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru. He clinched victory with a javelin throw of 86.18 meters.

  • Significance: Named after Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, this is India’s first World Athletics Gold-level event in javelin. 

About Neeraj Chopra 

Neeraj Chopra 

  • Neeraj Chopra is an Indian javelin thrower and the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics. 
  • He won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (held in 2021) with a throw of 87.58 meters. 
  • In 2022, he won silver at the World Athletics Championships, becoming the second Indian to win a medal at the event after Anju Bobby George. 
  • In 2023, he made history by winning gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, becoming the first Indian to win a world title in javelin throw. 
  • He is a Subedar in the Indian Army, originally from Khandra village, Haryana. 
  • His personal best throw is 89.94 meters, achieved in June 2022 at the Diamond League in Stockholm. 
  • He has also won gold medals at the Asian Games (2018) and Commonwealth Games (2018). 
  • In 2025, Neeraj won the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic held in Bengaluru with a throw of 86.18 meters. 
  • He has been awarded the Padma Shri, Khel Ratna, and Arjuna Award for his contribution to Indian sports.
