India is set to host the FIDE World Cup from October 30 to November 27, 2025. 

About FIDE World Cup 

• Organiser: Conducted by FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs), the international chess federation. 
• Tournament Format 
  • Held in a knockout format, where players are eliminated after each round. 
  • Features over 200 top players from around the world, including grandmasters and champions. 
• Importance 
  • Acts as a qualifying event for the Candidates Tournament. 
  • The top 3 players earn a place in the Candidates, which decides who will challenge the reigning World Chess Champion. 
• 2025 Edition 
  • Scheduled from October 30 to November 27, 2025. 
  • Will include 206 players in total. 
• India as Host Nation 
  • The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has confirmed India will host the 2025 event. 
• Significance 
  • One of the most prestigious chess events globally. 
  • Offers a platform for players to showcase strategy, skill and consistency on an international stage.
