Why in News?
At a press conference, Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil stated that the increased demand and the realisation that groundwater alone is insufficient to supply piped drinking water to all households have been key factors contributing to delays in the Jal Jeevan Mission.
About Jal Jeevan Mission
- Launched on: August 15, 2019
- Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Jal Shakti
- The mission aims to ensure safe and adequate drinking water for every rural household through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) by 2024.
- JJM follows a community-based approach to water management.
- It emphasizes Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) as important parts of the implementation strategy.
- The mission will be implemented in coordination with other Central and State Government schemes to ensure sustainable water supply management nationwide.
- Funding pattern under the mission
- 50:50 cost sharing between the Central Government and States.
- For Himalayan and North-Eastern States, the ratio is 90:10.
- For Union Territories (UTs), the Central Government provides 100% funding.
