Operation Sindoor 

  • India launched 'Operation Sindoor' targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.  
  • The strikes focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure without escalating the situation, ensuring no Pakistani military targets were affected. 

 Baglihar Dams  

  • India has blocked water flow to Pakistan through the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River and plans to take similar action at the Kishanganga Dam on the Jhelum River. 
  • Baglihar Dam: Located on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, this 900 MW hydroelectric project was completed in two phases, with approval starting in 1996 and the second phase in 2008. 
  • Kishanganga Dam: Located in Jammu and Kashmir, this 330 MW hydroelectric project diverts water from the Kishanganga River, with Pakistan raising objections. The Hague Court of Arbitration in 2013 allowed the diversion under certain conditions. 
  • Water Dispute: India’s actions aim to regulate water flow, leading to tensions with Pakistan regarding shared river resources. 

 Operation Shiva 

  • In response to the Pahalgam terror attack and rising tensions with Pakistan, India’s Security Forces have launched Operation Shiva to secure the Amarnath Yatra. 
  • The Amarnath Cave, located at 13,000 feet in Anantnag district, houses the ice lingam, symbolizing Lord Shiva, along with smaller ice stalagmites representing Parvati and Ganesha. 
  • The pilgrimage takes place during the Shravan month, when the ice lingam reaches full size, and its origin is described in the Sanskrit book Bringesha Samhita.
