Why in news? 

Passport Seva Divas is celebrated annually on June 24th. In 2025, it will fall on a Tuesday. This day marks the anniversary of the Passport Act of 1967, which came into effect on June 24th, 1967. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) uses this occasion to review and improve passport services.  

 About Passport Seva Divas 

• Celebration: It is an event to acknowledge the progress and achievements of the Passport Seva Project (PSP).  
• Focus: The day highlights the commitment to providing timely, secure and hassle-free passport services to citizens.  
• MEA's Role: The MEA and its Central Passport Organization are responsible for passport issuance and service delivery.  
• Passport Seva Project: This project aims to improve passport delivery through various initiatives like Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs).  
• Mobile Vans: The MEA has also been launching mobile passport seva vans to reach citizens in rural and remote areas, providing passport services at their doorstep.
