Every year, India celebrates Teachers’ Day on 5^th September as it is the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. 

About Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan 

• Birth Date: 5^th September 1888 
• He was born in a Telugu Brahmin family in a village near Thiruttani India, in the erstwhile Madras Presidency near the border of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states.  
• He was the second President of India. 
• He was also a renowned scholar and teacher. 
• The scholar believed that teachers played a pivotal role in shaping the nation's future and should be duly acknowledged. 
• He articulated, "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if  
• 5^th September is observed as Teacher's Day." 

Significance of the Day 

• This day is dedicated to honour the role and importance of teachers in our lives.
